Anyway, Lilith is unlike my pervious novels. It’s about this lady who got HIV from her mother due to parent-to-child transmission. Because of this issue, she felt that the world is being unfair to her… and she finally broke her limit when her most trusted boyfriend left her upon knowing about her condition. When she was sixteen, she began to seduce men and have casual sex with them to spread her HIV.
The psychological thriller is narrated from two points of view: One from Lilith, the HIV-positive woman, and one from Derrick, a dyslexic who is looking for Lilith. What is interesting about this story is that you can read on how they seek out each other using various methods: Somewhat a psychosomatic cat-and-mouse game. But the question is: Who is the prey, when both of them desire to be the predator?
This is not just a typical story that you will read and forget. It is a story that makes you reflect on a lot of things: The concept of social marginalization in Singapore, the stigma of HIV and most importantly, the view on fairness.
Apparently, while doing research for the story, I came across many interesting facts that were discussed in the story. For example, the percentage of HIV transmission during a sexual intercourse between a HIV-positive person and HIV-negative person is only about 0.4%!
I hope you all will enjoy reading the book, as much as I enjoyed writing it. All the best, and see you on 19th September 2009 to 21st September 2009!
